News for 10/9

We've had a short but busy and productive week in TAG. The students have been working hard and learning a lot!

Math:
3rd Grade-
Third grade is busy learning about rounding and estimation. We also have been exploring different strategies for addition and subtraction. Yesterday we practiced breaking down problems, looking for important information, and determining what we were solving for. We will continue exploring addition and subtraction problem solving strategies next week through some project based learning.

4th Grade-
We wrapped up Unit 2 this week with some division practice.  We learned how to interpret the remainder of a division problem, and categorized problems based on what happened to the remainder.  We will take our DCA (district common assessment) over place value, multiplication and division today in class.

5th Grade-
We spent some time studying integers this week.  We created an "elevator" to  study the floors of a store, and related them to positive and negative numbers.  We also studied addresses on a street and reviewed the types of numbers.  It's been a great week!

ELA Enrichment & ISP:
**ISP supply note...the students have been creating materials lists for their ISP projects in class. Please know that we will be using found objects as much as possible. The students are not expected to purchase special supplies for these projects.

1st Grade-
We've been busy working on our sequencing project for The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  We are almost finished and can't wait to show off our work!

2nd Grade-
Second grade completed their "movie" posters encouraging other to read "Lola Levine, Drama Queen". We have also loaded them to our SeeSaw accounts to share with our families. Enjoy!

We will continue the research process for their ISP projects and work on writing informational text to share what we have learned.

3rd Grade-
Our focus this week in third grade has been ISP research. We are almost done writing our essays about our dreams and will be ready to start the building of our houses next week!

4th Grade-
This week in fourth grade has been dedicated to our research for ISP. The students have almost completed their essays and some have already begun the building process. They are all working very hard and are excited to put their ideas into action!

5th Grade-
The 5th grade 20th Anniversary project is moving along quite well. The students have completed the trailer that will advertise the anniversary celebration to the school. It is set to begin running on the announcements next Friday. We will also share it with you here. They are completing their interviews and have begun compiling the pieces to create the short movie that will be shown to the school and guests at the celebration on the morning of the 27th. I am so proud of the hard work, dedication, and creativity that this group of kids has shown throughout this project. This is truly something that will be remembered by all!

Have a great weekend and see you next week!
