News for 10/29

October has officially come to an end. It has been a busy and fun month. We are looking forward to a great month of learning in November! We will be hosting TAG Referral Parent Information night on Tuesday, November 6th at 6:00pm in the CCE library. This meeting is for anyone interested in referring a student (who is not currently identified as TAG) for TAG testing. Feel free to share this information with anyone who might be interested in learning more about TAG.

1st Grade Talent Development

First graders have spent the week working on Mary Poppins.  We are more than halfway through the book, and are really enjoying all the vocabulary we are learning and the ways we can use our imaginations to be a part of the story.  We made puppets and wrote about our favorite parts of the book so far.  Check SeeSaw to see your child's project!  We also learned a little about our last two London landmarks, The London Eye and Big Ben.

2nd Grade Talent Development
Second grade had a great week. We began our fall ISP projects. Mrs. Bamford, the librarian, helped us locate books about cities around the world. The students are very excited to begin researching their cities and sharing what they know.

3rd Grade Math
Third graders have spent the week wrapping up our unit on patterns.  We have used input/output tables to find patterns and connected our learning to multiplication.  Students are at the beginning of exploring multiplication now.  If your child is not fluent in their multiplication facts from 1-10, now is a great time to practice!  Ask your kiddo about how we showed multiplication using pumpkins late this week!

4th Grade Math
Fourth graders have spent the week wrapping up our unit on the coordinate grid and number patterns.  We have explored how to label coordinate grids using numbers other than whole numbers, and created our very own name crests on the grid.  Projects will be up in the hallway soon!  We have also explored how relationships between x and y coordinates affect what our points look like on the grid.  What a great week!

5th Grade Math
Fifth graders have spent the week practicing all four operations with decimals.  We have added, subtracted, multiplied and divided decimals using all kinds of strategies and practice methods.  We have done task cards, word problems, and even shopped for candy using store ads!  They have done a great job, and are ready for using the operations with positive and negative numbers next week!

3rd Reading
Third grade continued their unit on expository text and elements. On Wednesday, we took a little detour back to sensory language. We listened to a fun story about a monster. The students then had to work in groups to create the monster that appeared in their mental images only using nonverbal communication. It was a lot of fun!

We also worked hard on our fall ISP research projects. The students are learning so much about each of their countries!

4th Reading
Fourth grade continued their poetry unit. We paid a visit to the library where we tested our knowledge with a Kahoot! all about poetry. Mrs. Bamford, the librarian, was quite impressed with all of our poetry knowledge.

The students also continued to work on their fall ISP research projects. They are really enjoying learning about libraries around the world. They can't wait to share their knowledge and build their models.

5th Reading
Fifth grade wrapped up their unit on Literary Nonfiction. We will be starting our unit on poetry next week. We are very excited to be reading one of this year's Bluebonnet award nominee books "The Harlem Charade". We will be collaborating with Mrs. Bamford, our librarian, as we move through this amazing book to combine our novel study with our study of poetry and an exploration into art both in our school and our community. It is going to be an amazing unit!

We had a little spooky fun on Wednesday by listening to the story of the Pulgar. This allowed us to use sensory and figurative language to create mental images. The students then had to work in groups using only nonverbal communication to create their own Pulgar. We had a blast!

The students were also very excited to begin the creative process of working on their fall ISP art. Their research has paid off and they are ready to begin creating!

Have a great weekend, see you next week!
