News for 11/26

November is officially over. We had a great month and are looking forward to December!

1st Grade Talent Development
First graders have had a great week researching London landmarks and finishing up Mary Poppins.  We have enjoyed the book so much, and look forward to reading a shorter storybook version next week, plus watching the movie!  Stay tuned for more information about fun things happening later this month!

2nd Grade Talent Development
Second grade has been working hard on their ISP research this week. We have been learning so much about all of these amazing cities around the world. The kids are very excited to show what they know.

3rd Grade Math
Third graders have spent the week practicing double digit multiplication and beginning division.  We learned the rules of divisibility, and practiced using them in many ways.  They are having fun relating multiplication to division!  We also had a workday for their fall ISPs.  They are all working hard on their essays about their chosen countries, and will begin to create their doors soon.  Ask your student about their project- they are loving it!

4th Grade Math
Fourth graders have spent the week multiplying and dividing fractions.  We have practiced these skills in many ways, and learned a trick or two along the way.  We even took a look at some recipes and multiplied the quantities of the ingredients to make a grocery shopping list.  They are all doing a great job with this.  We had an ISP workday as well.  Students are doing a great job on their library research projects.  A few have already started on their models of the buildings, and they are looking great!

5th Grade Math
Fifth graders have spent the week studying ratios, rates and unit rates.  We have talked a lot about how these skills relate to every day life.  They've all done well learning a new skill, and have been able to work well with this new knowledge!  It's been fun to talk about how to use what they are learning in the real world.  Ask your student about the lightbulb problem we did to gain some insight into our conversations!  We had an ISP workday, and it's been great to see their works of art.  Everyone is well on their way to creating a masterpiece!

3rd Reading
Third grade has been hard at work this week. We are working on finishing up our "Rump" novel. We also began a fun biography project. The students are excited to research their famous person.

4th Reading
Fourth grade continued the unit on biographies this week. The students have began compiling their notes and writing their biography reports. We have also started to wrap up reading "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" and have begun some fun projects connected to the book.

5th Reading
Fifth grade continued their unit on poetry. The students have analyzed works of art and written poems inspired by the pieces. We are also wrapping up our reading of "The Harlem Charade". We will begin a project connected to the novel next week!

Have a great weekend, see you next week!
