1st Grade Talent Development

First graders have had a great week of starting our research on London landmarks.  We learned how to use Britannica online to look up one landmark, and they practiced taking notes.  We are all so excited to get our projects started!  We are almost finished reading the book and everyone is excited to watch the movie soon!

2nd Grade Talent Development
Second grade has been hard at work on our fall ISP city research. We have already learned so much about our chosen city. The students are also continuing to enjoy our group reading of "A Bear Called Paddington". We are learning about characters and setting and creating puppets for a retelling at the end of the novel.

3rd Grade Math
Third graders have spent the week beginning multiplication.  We took a DCA early in the week, and went over the test together.  We started unit 4- multiplication and division midweek.  Students are learning new vocabulary words such as factors, multiples, finite and infinite.  We are excited to multiply some bigger numbers next week!

4th Grade Math
Fourth graders have spent the week on fractions.  We are starting with comparing and making equivalent fractions.  Students used balloons to group fractions into groups that were equivalent on Tuesday.  We had fun!  Wednesday, students used clues about Brenda and her bakery to break out of a box.  They had five locks to unlock, and they solved the mystery in record time!  They have spent the rest of the week showing their knowledge of fractions by completing three activities of their choice on a menu.  What a great week!

5th Grade Math
Fifth graders have spent the week on operations with positive and negative integers.  It's been a great week of taking notes on videos, completing practice problems and working through stations to show what we know.  The discussions we've had about real life uses of integers have been great as well.  They are all doing great with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers.  Learning the rule that two negatives equal a positive was a huge revelation for them all, and they are rocking and rolling now!

3rd Reading
Third grade compared nonfiction and fiction text this week. We discussed main idea, cause and effect, and continued our novel study of "Rump". We are enjoying exploring different forms of literature and are looking forward to digging deeper into our novel study.

4th Reading
Fourth grade wrapped up their unit on poetry this week. We enjoyed reading poetry and learning about poetic devices. We will be starting our unit on biographies next week. Our unit will include research on a person. The students have selected authors to research and we are looking forward to connecting our learning with our novel study of "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" and our fall ISP projects.

5th Reading
Fifth grade began their unit on poetry. We started with analyzing a poem about books and then kicked off our novel study of "The Harlem Charade". We are excited to connect poetry to art and literature throughout this unit. Keep an eye out for more from this exciting unit of study!

Have a great weekend, see you next week!
