News for 11/12

We have had another great week in TAG. We wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving break and we will see you back on Monday the 26th!

1st Grade Talent Development
First graders have had a good week filled with research on London landmarks, reading some more of Mary Poppins (we are almost finished!!), and ending the week by making turkeys to represent two digit numbers.  We are looking forward to finishing our research, comparing the Mary Poppins book to the movie, and having a tea party after the Thanksgiving holiday.

2nd Grade Talent Development
Second grade has had a great week. This week we focused on being thankful and our fall family traditions. The students completed a turkey glyph to describe their families and how they spend the Thanksgiving break. They also wrote acrostic poems to explain what they were thankful for.

3rd Grade Math
Third graders have had a good week spent exploring multiplying double digit numbers.  We started the week by reviewing our facts through the 12's and moved into multiplying bigger numbers.  We learned the standard algorithm, partial products, 10's & 1's and area model methods for multiplying.  Everyone made a choice for which method they liked best, and we practiced!  We will continue after the break, but if you have time next week, some practice would be good for everyone!  We ended the week with some work on their ISPs- their country research projects are looking great!

4th Grade Math
Fourth graders wrapped up our unit on fraction equivalence and adding and subtracting fractions.  We explored fraction circles and fractions on number lines.  We ended the week with a DCA on units 3&4- grades are in HAC.  We also spent Friday working on our ISPs- their library projects are coming along so well!

5th Grade Math
Fifth graders spent the week wrapping up unit 3.  We started the week by making a November calendar using all four operations and integers to equal the dates of the month.  They turned out great!  We took a DCA Wednesday and reviewed it on Thursday.  We ended the week with a day of ISP work.  Their artist projects are looking so great.  We can't wait to show them off!

3rd Reading
Third grade had a great week! We discussed main idea and details, worked on summarizing text, and ended the week with procedural text and SLIME!! It was a lot of fun!
We also continued our novel study of "Rump". The students are loving this story. We are looking forward to a great week when we return!

4th Reading
Fourth grade began there unit on biographies this week. Each students selected a famous author to research. They are learning so much!! We also, continued reading "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" and are loving it. The students had the privilege of skyping with the author, Chris Grabenstein. He was a dynamic and motivating interview. We had a blast talking with him!

5th Reading
Fifth grade continued their unit on poetry. We have been reading poems and analyzing them. This week we also acted out poetry. The students had a blast bring poems to life.
The students also had the opportunity to join in on the 4th grade skype with author Chris Grabenstein from "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library". The group read the book last year as fourth graders and loved it. We had a great time chatting with Mr. Grabenstein and gained some valuable writing advice as well.

Have a great weekend, see you next week!
